Decorative Paisley Repeat Patterns in Procreate

Create an intricate, seamless paisley pattern using hand drawing, texture and custom Procreate brushes.

Paisley patterns are filled with flowing shapes, decorative details and beautifully interlocking forms. In this class, I’ll show you how to create one entirely in Procreate, from your first rough layout to a richly decorated seamless repeat.

We’ll begin by arranging the large teardrop motifs and testing the repeat structure. Once everything fits together properly, we’ll ink the artwork, establish our colour groups and gradually add borders, textures, highlights and decorative details.

You’ll also learn how to stay organized as your pattern becomes more complex. I’ll share my process for managing layers, creating custom decorative brushes and completing motifs that are divided across the edges of the repeat tile.

By the end of the class, you’ll have a finished decorative paisley repeat and a flexible process you can use to create many more patterns in your own style.

Whether you prefer polished detail or a looser hand-drawn finish, this class will help you approach complex repeat patterns with more confidence.

What You’ll Learn

In this class, you’ll learn how to:

  • Plan and draw a balanced paisley composition
  • Build, test and correct a seamless repeat in Procreate
  • Ink and colour intricate motifs while keeping your layers organized
  • Complete motifs that cross the edges of the repeat tile
  • Create and customize decorative Procreate brushes
  • Add borders, textures, highlights and hand-drawn details
  • Develop a flexible workflow you can use for future patterns

I’ll Walk You Through

We’ll begin by sketching and arranging the large teardrop motifs that form the foundation of the paisley pattern. Once the layout is working, I’ll show you how to test the repeat, correct the spacing and begin transforming the sketch into finished artwork.

From there, we’ll organize the layers, establish the colour groups and decorate each motif with borders, textures, clipping masks and custom brushes. I’ll also walk you through the trickier process of completing motifs that cross the edges of the repeat tile.

By the end of the class, you’ll have followed the complete process from rough sketch to richly detailed seamless repeat, all created entirely in Procreate.

I would then follow these sections with a short “What’s Included” area listing the runtime, brush set and class resources. The project description could go inside the curriculum rather than on the main sales page unless your other class pages normally feature it.

From Simple Shapes to a Richly Detailed Repea

Paisley patterns may look complicated, but they become much more manageable when you build them one step at a time.

In this class, I’ll show you how to transform a collection of simple teardrop shapes into an intricate, seamless pattern filled with colour, texture and hand-drawn detail.

You’ll finish with a beautiful repeat that could be used on fabric, stationery, greeting cards, gift wrap and other products, along with a process you can use again and again.
